Another strange noise post
hey im another noobie to the audi tt forum. i got my tt bout a week of 2 ago. I got a 2004 225 TT, and after maybe a week i was sitting on a hill and my car started to make a very loud very annoying sound. Then this past weekend i was stuck in traffic it came back. It seems to go away when i start driving. it only comes around rarely, and it only when im at a stop. I looked the the rpms and when the noise hits, the rpms start to go up and down. Nothing can really stop the sound besides actually moving. I put the clutch in, put the car in neutral, watever it may be but it happens and im just concerned. first time dealing with a turboed car and i looked over the net and i couldnt really find anything. please a guru help and advise,
thanks guys

it sounds like its coming from the engine. when the sound hits, the rpms go up and down about 100 or 200 and it does it by itself. and yes i think both times the ac was on. also it actually viberates the car. i can feel it in the clutch.

Next time you hear the noise turn the A/C off, and see if that stops it.
If it's the same thing that's happening to me turning off the A/C will stop the sound.
But it won't immediately stop, instead you'll hear it slow down and kinda groan to a halt.

RE: Another strange noise post
The code I pulled was:
00604 - Potentiometer Positioning Motor for air flow flap (G113)
30-10 open or short to plus.
Bentley manual states "This flap motor moves the fresh air/recirculated air flap in addition to the air flow flap.".
Just yesterday I pulled my glove box out to see what the deal was.
I actually had the whole PPM (potentiometer positioning motor) in my hand, and couldn't see anything wrong.
So I reassembled and hooked up vag-com to test the HVAC measuring blocks. So far so good, but I have a feeling this is not the end.
If you have vag-com scan for codes, and if you don't make friends with someone who does!
I didn't have a CEL, but the code was still there. Apparently it's not a big enough ordeal for the ECU to trip the check engine light.
