Default All season tires good in snow for TT quattro

I wanted Nokian WR all season tires for my 2008 TT 3.2 Quattro Roadster but Nokian doesn't make a tire equivalent to the stock 245/40/18 All season run flats.

I asked my local installer if he would put the Nokian 235/40/18 tires on but he declined since he felt that the tires are not close enough in circumference giving different revs/mile and may screw up the gearing on the stronic. Audi was noncommital on this as well and said it would "probably be ok" but wouldn't put it in writing to avoid voiding the warrantee. Now I don't know what to do. I really had my heart set on those Nokians since I don't want to change to snow tires every season. Nokian does make a true snow tire in the 245/40/18 size but I couldn't leave them on in the summer.

Are there any other all season tires that would be adequate in the snow and still not need to be removed with good wear (at least 25 K miles?)

I was told this car is best not driven in the snow with the stock all season tires and the Nokians are really the only true All season snow rated tires that can be driven on all year round with excellent wear and traction.

the difference between the 245 and 235 can be mathmatically figured out, google it, when you drive 20 miles it might reflect 21 on your odometer, it isn't going to break your car?!?

if the car comes with all season tires, and you are worried that another type of tire might be better in the snow, or worried about the difference that 245 verses 235 might do to your mileage or whatever... then I think you should be considering a different vehicle if snow is such a huge factor in your purchase.

I have AWD and 255/45-20 FRONT, 285/40-20 REAR all season run flats, they worked fine in the winter snowy weather.

Really, if you're that worried about driving in snow, get snow tires. All season tires are rated for something like a 1/4" of snow. If you're driving in more than that, and you have concerns about one tire over another, get some dedicated snow tires, put them on some steel rims, and take the 15 minutes each fall and spring it requires to switch from one set to the other.

A 215/60-16 is 4.75% larger than a stock 225/45-17, so when your speedo reads 70, you're actually doing just over 73.

A 205/65-15 is 2.08% bigger than stock, so you would be doing 71.46mph when your speedo reads 70... Pretty close, but thats a whole lotta sidewall, and a silly little 15" rim

If you can find them in your area, I absolutely love Green Diamond Icelanders, look into those tires, and make your own decision. (btw, those tires sizes I listed are what GD carries, theres other sizes for other brands.) I'd call those a snow tire you can run year round, infact, my sister does.
