Default 42DD 3'' DP owners...

Hey, has anyone here bought the 3'' DP with cat?

the reason i ask, when i first got mine it was good, no CELs, but now after time i got a cel for my cat and started wondering...

well finally, i realized, at 21lbs of boost my turbo is blowing out some pretty hot exhaust and i think it is literally burning through the cat... every time i get on the gas pretty hard then off you can smell burning and im pretty sure its the filter on the inside of the cat burning.

thoughts?

I have a 225 with the same setup. After awhile I threw a code as well for cat being below threshold. I now only run a test though. There was nothing visibly wrong with the cells in the cat as far as I could see. How old is the setup? Mine stunk after a hard run for a while during "breaking" it in.

Are you smelling the smell inside the car? If so, it sounds more like it could be some loose bolts (42DD had problems with the bolts on the earlier models, it should be fixed by now). As far as the CEL did you get a wayne schmidt spacer? They are sometimes needed even for the downpipe with the cat. If you are smelling fumes then it could be a loose downpipe that is causing the code.

I have a 42DD DP and at first didn't throw a CEL for the CAT. 3 months later it did pop on and I did get some Sparkplug Non-Defoulers from Autozone and drilled through one of them and kept the second one in tact. Used that set up as a spacer and the CEL is gone. I have recently replaced my O2 sensors and removed the Spacer/non-Defoulers and so far no CEL. If it comes back I will put the Defouler/Spacer back in there.
Also, I never had any smell of any kind. Well, maybe for a short time at break in like it you get with new exhaust systems but it never smelled like something was burning.
I don't think it is the cat those things smell more like rotten eggs if they go out.

Same story here, ran fine for a few months, then threw a cell. Put in an O2 spacer and problem solved.

Well the testpipe will throw a CEL, o2 sensor spacers will fix it, OR software will also.
