Default 3rd Gear Better After Gear Oil Change

I was getting some grinding going into third at various times. Mostly when down shifting quickly from a higher gear to take a corner or what ever.
Also got this coming up from 2nd sometimes.
However, It would be ok if I gave it some time after pushing in clutch.

Changed gear oil because not sure when it was done last. The place that did said that the old oil didn't look to bad and no shavings were found.

Put in Royal Purple.

Seems smoother all the way around.

They forgot to drain bevel box but I hope its not a biggie.
Is 3rd gear some sort of anomaly on this car?

its usually the 1-2 shift that is the biggest problem. You have been around long enough im sure you have heard about the syncos not liking older oil

You should be able to find both at the local parts store, if not, ecstuning sells it.

older = ?

I wasn't sure when it was done last since I only had the car for 10k miles.

Haven't heard about 1 & 2 but did a search for 3rd and found a lot of the same thing on that

^ 1st to 2nd grind is notorious on the TT.

I've always heard 3rd, not 1-2, and can confirm with my car, and that a gear oil change will help a ton.

Believe it was the bevel box that had the magnetic drain plug. I promise you it's covered in filings. The shifting problem is related to the syncros, which are brass, aka, non magnetic, but you'll find steel bits, and probably a little brass in/around the bevel box.

I've always bought my redline oil from summit.
