Default 3 bolts connecting turbo to exhaust manifold

is there a secret to get these off? My torx set, I believe size 15, won't do the trick. I'm afraid of rounding out the heads and creating a huge headache. should I heat them? special tool? my bently has no information on removing the head. unless it's hidden somewhere.

they are the last 3 bolts keeping me from pulling the head off and seeing the carnage that were my valves.

Pull the head with the manifold and turbo still attached. And heating them will help a ton.

thats because they are reverse torque screws, when i did my GT swap my shop had the same problem, infact after they rounded out the heads of the screws they had to heat them up by using a tact welding machine and literaly welding the torque bit to the screw and letting it cool just a bit before finaly taking them out. It was a huge head ache! Audi dealership said they charge 2200 dollars just to replace the turbo in the TT, thats just outrageous.

taking the turbo with manifold seems like a big deal. I towed the tt to a indie mechanic who is going to give it a try.

$2200 would be money well spent. this head removal is scary. If it drags out to long I won't rememer how to put it together again.

its not that bad, once you get the turbo off, then the mani is the next pain, because you have to work upside down basicaly to get every bolt off. To install my new turbo and full exhaust it took my shop 3 days, and the first two days were spent trying to get the turbo and mani off. Good luck and keep us updated.

I towed it to a shop so they could work on those three bolts before I ruined them. They hit each with a punch, sprayed penetrating oil, hit with punch again, took an impact wrench and viola.

I gave them $20, they weren't even going to charge.

I should be able to pull head bolts and see if the head lifts off. I'm probably missing something to take off, we'll see.

also, and I may do another post, but I should probably have my turbo re-built as long as I am in there and buying parts. I would rather not do the rebuild, can anyone reccomend a shop to send it to? I checked the internet but would always like a reccomendation.

thanks again - PS
