I bought my mother's 2001 Audi TT 225 and she failed to mention a host of issues. I love the car, but have to get these bugs worked out!

I first had to address the convertible sensor that went bad..... $400!!

Now I've been noticing the creaking front right suspension. Also, I'mhearing asoft clunk when turning the wheel fully one direction or another when backing out..

I've done my homework on the web and have come to the following conclusions (based upon web info):

Creaking Issue part replacements:
[ul][*]Sway bar[*]Stabilizer bar (is this same as sway?)[*]Bushings[/ul]
Steering knock:
[ul][*]Strut mount[*]Strut bearings[*]Tie rod ends[/ul]
Is this the general consensus on these problems or am I missing some things? I'm an Audi newbie, so any help is greatly appreciated!

steering clunk could be CV joint.

 

Flush your power steering fluid first. It's a cheap DIY, and fixed it for me. I had a horrible creaking at low speeds, while turning my wheel as well.

I have horrible suspension creaking! Unfortunately, I haven't found the fix yet. Im guessing corroded control arms, old bushings ( on mine at least). I've actually gotten uderneath and those control arms look 30 yrs old. lol

 

I put in the Upper Strut Kit fromECS Tuning hoping it would eliminate the creaking while turningat low speeds. It was not the source of the problem. Still creaking.

 

Mine sounds like an old bed when I go over speed bumps. lol

That clunk might just be a little driveline bind. Only happen when you're backing up? Thats usually when I would hear it. Not much you can do about it if thats the case. Maybe quit backing up? ; )

 

dont the bushings on the front sway bar go bad and make a creaking noise?

i remember seeing a tech bulletin on this.

 

Damn, you figure dealerships would know exactly what the problems are. It's the same w/ water. When it's wet out, the suspension makes no noise.

I'm going to start calling random dealerships to see what they say....
