Default 2001 Audi tt Roadster Idle dropping

I've been having a problem lately with my car, if i'm at a light the idle is going erratic up and down. It has stalled a couple of times already. And when i push on the gas peddle it feels like the car is going nowhere. From looking at past post it seems a lot of people with Audi tt with the 1.8 have a lot of the same trouble. What Iwant to know is what some people have done to remedy this problem on their own to resolve the situation, before they if they did bring it to a shop. My problem started last year it only did it a couple of times. I thought this have could have been the gas I was using at the time. But the problem never went away. I love my car, but brakes and everything else cost a fortune to maintain. all help wouldbe so appreciated

couldn't the temp sensor and/or the MAF be a cause of this?

I know I've read that because of the electronics stupid things like this are usually the problem.

Don't take my advise though. Wait for someone to respond that knows.

Clutch maybe, I'm not sure about the RPM's bouncing around at idle though...

Two things to check first...

MAF - Try unplugging yours and see if the problem goes away. The ECU will resort to using the default maps and will ignore any input from a faulty MAF

Throttle Valve- The other option may be a dirty throttle valve. You will need to remove it from the car and clean it. Follow these instructions (they are for a 180 but the 225 is pretty much the same)
