2000 TT Coupe instrument panel cluster
Upon starting car in the am, the tach, speedometer, fuel & temp guage, LED, date and time display all flicker then goes off. Sometimes one or all come back on the longer I drive the car. Other times none come on. As you can imagine, it's a little unsettling to not know how fast you are going, how much gas you have or if the systems diagnostis have taken place and all is functioning properly (except for the instrument cluster of course).
The car drives great with only 53K miles on it. The car is now out of warranty and I am left wondering, first of all what it's going to cost to fix the problem as well as should this be covered by the manufacturer. My stomach is in knots as I cannot afford a costly maintenance bill right now. Will someone offer any insight for this problem

Unfortunately i had the same problem with mine, but the good thing for me was i had just bought mine. The problem is you need an all new gauge cluster and the total cost is about $800+ from the dealer but thank god i had the waranty.

Sorry to be the berer of bad news but I just replaced that on my TT. You have a bad I.P. cluster, and its around $800 to fix. The exact same thing happened to me but it happend as I was driveing my audi home from the repair shop. I didnt even have it back for 30 min untill I had to take it in for that repair. and now I have this horrible grinding/rubbing noise comming from my wheel so I guess its back to the shop again. Not a very good car at all, but its looks really cool. sorry

RE: 2000 TT Coupe instrument panel cluster
I have discovered that the company in Italy installed faulty chips in Audi TT instrument clusters from 2000 to 2004. All Audi owners in Europe got thiers replaced at no charge. I contacted Audi USA and they denied any free repair and really are ignoring the situation. I wrote the CEO of Audi USA and they gave me a song and dance. I think us Americans are getting ripped off by Audi USA. Its not fair to have the same chip in the instrument cluster that the Europe cars do and we have to shell out over $800 to get repoaired. Write, call Audi USA and raise hell I have for two months now. If you read these forums you will see its very widespreed problem.
