Default 1.8t rough engine - $2k and 3 months later

1.8t 225HP 6 spd 130k miles
bought 6 months ago. love it.

developed an engine vibration, almost immediately. not a gradual thing but with an a commute it started. I like to wrench on cars so I bought the bently book to try and fix. this forum was great help as well.

checked timing belt
cleaned AMM
checked ignition modules on spark plugs. all cylinders are firing
spark plugs
carb cleaner in tank
freaked out one night, long story, and talk the cylinder head off. Head is re-done, new valve guides but it looked good.
as long as a part I sent the turbo to turbo city for a rebuild.
still runs just as rough.
replaced motor mounts - symptoms are less but it is still there.

doesn't rev up as quick. not as fast. Pulls really good and cruises nice, but when I use the higher RPM's you can feel the vibration and it's not as fast.

does it at idle and when you rev it up in neutral.

If this was a 30 year old corvette you would think it wasn't running on all 8 or needed a "tune up."

no check engine lights. no funny noises or smells.

The coolant temp sensor is the “green” type replaced at 93k miles.

When I search on line I read about the "ignition control module" or "ignition amplifier" but can't find much info on those parts.

The VW dealer in town refuses to VAG my car which is upsetting to me. They seem to enjoy saying no.

I have no problem paying someone that can help me out. The tow to the dealer will kill me. I may buy one of the VAG-COM things on ebay and download the software. May just confuse me more.

When you changed the motor mounts, did you change the dogbone also? Take it to autozone or another parts store and see if they will scan it for you. Just because you dont have a cel doesnt mean there isnt codes as you probably know

I did not change the dogbone, only left and right mounts.

I tried the auto zone scan at the beginning of this saga, they told me to head to dealer!

This has been a pretty embarrassing experience for me. I try not to tell people that I took the head off only to have the guides replaced.

the price I pay for having a cool car in western south dakota.

Your bushings in the dogbone could be falling apart. This mount stops the engine from rocking back and forth and could be the cause for your issues. I changed mine at about 90k miles and they were dry, brittle and fell apart after removing them. You can either check them or just spent the $30 for them and replace them

it screws up the reader and then they have to get it fixed and they dont learn anything about your car

interesting about the stereo - but the whole car is bone stock. no mods, and I like the factory system.

do fuel injectors ever go bad? I ordered coil packs yesterday, car has 130k and they could be the origninal packs. I have read about their bad reputation.

Injectors can get clogged over time. Run 2-3 tanks with Techron, though, and they should get cleaned up pretty well.

the coil packs didn't work. I have driven one tank with some $30 injector cleaner.

Should I thow money at injectors? Car has 130k miles on it so I justify repairs that don't work by saying it's pre-emptive repairs. but the bills are getting pretty steep.

Anyone want to open an audi dealership in rapid city, sd?
