i could always go the cheap route and just put springs in on stock shocks/struts.

$8k for 5mph into a fire hydrant?!?!? Get a full respray or something????
BBS RC's, which are similar, aren't too hard to find (used) since MkIV Jetta GLI's came with them so there's plenty ditching their stock RC's. BBS might even still make those new.
