Angry Q7 dead at the dealer and they want $4000

My wife was driving down the road and said the car was having problems accelerating and the dash display said "ESP Fault Check Owners Manual" so she pulled over cause this has happened before and the Dealer replaced the Computer for $1000 USD that time. The dealer said this time they want to pull the engine to diagnose the car more and this will be $4000... just to pull out the engine and they still don't know what the problem might be. I don't see why they want to pull the engine if they still don't know what is wrong.

Sounds like the dealer is screwing me, well my wife, cause I work out of town and hear this all from my wife.

I was thinking about having the Q7 towed out of there. I don't own a VAG COM to pull codes and only have light experience working on the car. Changing breaks and what not... So what are some of the things I should look into that would be the cause of it not starting? I know there could be a million reasons. I have searched around here and other forums for "ESP Fault" and didn't really see any posts similar to my case.
