Towing
Hi folks- New guy here in Charleston WV. Don't have an Audi YET, but thinking about one for my next tow vehicle. I'm towing a small travel trailer (currently with a Toyota FJ Cruiser- gas mileage SUCKS) Anyway, the trailer is 15' from tongue to rear bumber, 2490lbs dry weight, 290lbs tongue weight. I'm thinking about the Q5, but before I plunk down a bunch of coin, I wanted to get some impressions from other owners about towing. What do you tow? Is a WD hitch necessary? (I currently do not need one w/ my FJ) What about wiring the brake controller? (it was pretty simple on my FJ). Based on what I've read, the Q5 should handle this pretty easily and still get decent gas mileage? Any thoughts?
Thanks
Dave

We bought the Q5 specifically with this in mind, the 3.0. I've installed the hitch, not a problem. The wiring is not yet resolved, haven't had the time to troubleshoot. I wouldn't think a WD is necessary, we don't plan to use one, but our trailer carries a boat, much lighter. Don't have any more info as yet, but its an awesome ride. We had an FJ for awhile, fun to drive, but never towed with it.

I received my Q5 3.0 about three weeks ago, I ordered it from Audi with the hitch receiver installed, not cheep, but was told driver assist would work with trailer attached. The wiring may be better handled at the factory. The size and weight of your travel trailer should be no problem, plenty of torque with the 3.0 engine. Not sure if a menu item for trailer brake adjustment appears in the MMI if the car senses trailer brakes, I haven't used a trailer with brakes yet.
