Default Vents only blow hot air

Regardless of the fan speed or the setting, I only get hot air blowing from my vents. Does anyone have any suggestions? Car is 1997 Audi A8. I've heard that this car uses A/C to cool down the hot air from the engine instead of just sucking the cold air from the outside. Is this true? If that's the case, then I might have an A/C leak and am simply out of it.

Any suggestions help. Thanks!

Check that the compressor engages when the AC is turned on, it will not engage if refrigerant level is low. If compressor works OK, then the air doors in the HVAC plenum under the dash may not be working properly.

Agree with z28pete and it could be the doors.

Some diagnostic info here https://www.audiforums.com/forum/aud...isited-163419/

I took the car to Pep Boys today to check the A/C level and they said that the compressor is not kicking in + my a/c refrigerant level is very low.

I understand now why my A/C is not working - it might have a leak somewhere, but what I don't understand is why can't I get cold air from the outside to flow in?

Also, if my HVAC flap is not working, is there a DIY on how to fix/diagnose it?

Here's a little more info: My "re-circulation" button does not work at all (the light goes off right after I press it) and my "rest" button doesn't do anything either.

All I want here is to have some cold air... haha

Thanks guys!
