I don't think yanking is the way to go. It's been a few years, but, barely remember the turn the ignition switch & pull, firmly (should not require excessive force).
caveat: I haven't had do deal with this since, like, 2003-ish, and I'm old, so my memory ain't what it used to be.
Haven't had a chance to dig out my old, decommissioned hard-drives, this past weekend, since I dint make it home. Will try to get to it on Tuesday night.

and got the new pump into her and she runs and drives, filled the tank up to burp the pump properly, and everything seems good! had to replace the fuel hose on the return line but now all seems to be good, no leaks no nothing.
