New 2012 A8L - horrible creaking and rattling noise...help?
#11
My thoughts:
Do you have it in writing on the contract that you would get an A8L loaner?
Around here you're lucky to get an A6 - they can't keep anything on the lot or loaner pool due to sales volume.
If I was getting the run around by the dealer I wouldn't hesitate to call Audi of America and talk to a flagship customer advocate.
You didn't buy an '89 Corolla at CarMax after all...
Normally I'd let this type of thing go because it's clearly not Audi or the dealership's fault.
Considering what you've been through ask for something tangible.
Get some Audi gear, floor mats, etc. Not discounts.
UPDATE:
After much back and forth - no / bad communication, and absolutely no progress (everything from having the service adviser confirm he understood the three problems needing addressing, to the ability to obtain an A8L Loaner which was promised to us at the time we signed for the vehicle).
Spoke with the salesman who sold me the Audi. He had a word with the service adviser - and all is now set. I will bring the car in tomorrow to Audi Manhattan.

Thoughts on something though - our Audi had the back up camera omitted due to it not being available from the earthquake in Japan. We bought the car in September. It is now almost the middle of December - and we have done with out it. Should we request some form of monetary or service or barter in return? Essentially, we paid for this item - but went 3 months without it. Worth saying anything?

I have an 07 A8 and I have that creak, its coming from the glove box. Tends to happen more in winter. I can confirm its coming from there because if I press the glove box and hold, it stops. I put a small piece of paper in the seam and closed the door again and it seems to have tightened things down and stopped. Its a VERY annoying noise for anyone that is reading this and thinking we are a bunch of spoiled brats.

Hey, Nice to meet you!
Yes - in an email, I have confirmed that I am to get an A8L loaner when my car is in for service. So I got one today - they honored their word. So far, no problems today - they have the car - and will do the three fixes.
At this point, the new service adviser is very nice, cordial, professional, and I am pleased. I really don't ask for anything special - although I have heard horror stories of what customers say/do to their service advisers, or what they expect. I'm really simple. Minor problem - the dealer can tell me when to bring it in - I am in no rush. This creaking noise, or the back up cam, or the rear seat adjustment noise - they aren't big problems - they can be fixed at the leisure of the dealer. I'm sure others have far worse problems than me.
They threw in the floor mats, a set of coffee mugs, key chains, etc when we signed the deal. Wouldn't even know what more to ask for - except maybe a free detail after the winter? I'm not greedy - I just wondered what you all thought. It was in fact supposed to be on my car and for the past few months - I've done without it.

Hope they can fix it.... They are adding MORE felt during this visit.
Why'd Audi not fix this problem since 07?

I expect that type of thing on my '05, you should not on a brand new Audi.
Plus it gives those of us looking at D4's insight into potential issues.

All seems to be good! I don't THINK i heard any noise but let me review for a few more days and will revert back to you.
Folks - otherwise, its a terrific car...fast as hell, smooth, (too smooth? driving 85mph feels like 45mph)...
I really like it!
Wonder if it needs the 20s though... the 19s look small...

Problem is only partially eradicated. Although less, the noise exists - I hear it sporadically. I suppose I will bring it back. Annoying!

Although it sucks to have a new purchase turn out to have an annoying glitch-like problem. Even if you make boatloads of money annually, you probably spent some serious dough on that 8. I would be going apeshit on the dealer until it is fixed.

Besides that - the car is simply terrific.
