A8 3.0 TDI - Buying tips needed
Hi,
I've recently sold my allroad and am thinking about buying an A8 3.0 TDI Quattro. I've been offered a very good deal on a 2005 car with 10k miles and plenty of options. Has anyone here owned one of these models and, if so, can you offer an obvious tips for things I need to watch out for? Also what is the opinion on this engine? I do lots of miles so the diesel option is the way for me to go. Finally, has anyone put mega mileage on a 2003+ A8 and are people happy they can take big mileages without too much major maintenance?
BTW - the car I have been offered comes with 4 years remaining on a fully inclusive service package - so my first 65k miles are free apart from fuel.
Alan.

RE: A8 3.0 TDI - Buying tips needed
The 3.0TDI is a hugely reliable engine - I have a friend who runs up more than 100k per year and drives an A6 3.0TDI. No problems.
I have no idea if teh suspension is good for mega miles but I suspect that it is OK. However, it would be fiendishly expensive to repair if it failed.
For me this is the best real world saloon car on earth. Go for it. I dream of it but have to make do with the A6 2.7 TDI Quattro with pneumatic suspension which will arrive soon!
