2003 A8 (4E) front rotors and pads replacement
Hi,
Got quoted £450 to get this done at an Audi specialist (goodness knows what Audi dealers would charge!)
Is this something a competent mechanic can do or do I need special tools etc. I have done these on older 7-series v8 BMW's and although one needs some strength as the bolts are tight, it can be done with standard tools and some common sense.
Also, does anyone know what brand Audi use for their OEM parts? There are so many to choose from: Mintex, EBC, ATE, Zimmermann etc etc. Which are good?
Cheers
Paul

The front brakes and front rotors can easily be changed and replaced either by you or a known mechanic. The rear ones I hear have to be electronically released via a vag com then replaced. I would just go for what is recommended by other users of the car, the OEM is a great brake and provides a good bite without a lot of wear. But they also do make the ceramic pads that also have a good bite and have virtually no brake dust emitted. Although, the ceramic pads are supposed to wear at your rotor a bit more. Not too much more though I believe.

Ceramics suck, they warp the rotors, increase pedal effort, the chip away because they get so damn hot, squeal like a hooker in heat, and increase stopping distance...........they do have less brake dust though!
Front pads and rotors is a cake walk, shouldn't be any harder than a BMW.
