'07 A8 4.2 thermostat replacement?
This morning when I was driving the A8, for the first time the engine took a long time to warm up. Usually off the peg within 3/8 mile, and fully warm within about 1 mile. Today it took over 5 miles to get to full temp (needle straight up). Ambient temp was 29 F.
So, seems the thermostat may be stuck in the open position. Has anyone here have experience in changing out a later D3 engine with the timing chain? IF so, I'd appreciate any guidance you might be able to give.
Thanks,
Gary Knox

My @007 A8L also takes a long time to warm up when it is below freezing. IT warms up a lot faster when you turn of the climate control for the first 1 or 2 miles. To change the thermostat is not so easy. It is within the water pump on the side of the motor and not easily accessible without having it on a lift. The water pump is driven by a shaft directly by the motor.
