Default whistling noise...

Tonight when i got out of work and started my car it wouldn't turn over the first time, it whistled really long (WEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee). Is it a noise i should be concerned with? What happens when your timing belt goes?

when your timing belt goes, the cams are no longer held in time with the crankshaft, allowing them to move to wherever they please. in a nutshell, the car won't run any more, so as long as your car still runs, you haven't broken the timing belt. as for the whining, i'm not entirely sure what that could be other than the fuel pump priming or possibly the secondary air pump for the catalytic converters.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Pop the hood and check all the lines. Pretty easy to find.

It's not your t-belt. Probably, the bendix in the starter. I have the same noise every once in awhile. Mostly when its cold. Granite my car is in a heated garage and I don't drive it everyday. But, when I do drive it and it is left outside in the cold as soon as it turns over I get the "(WEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee)" sound for a second or two. That's the bendix in the starter, not disengaging. Have a qualified tech check it first, you probably have to replace the starter. Hope this helps.
