To make this more understandable (no offense):
• 5w-20 is going to be too thin for normal use - ever (well most usually)
• 0w-40 sounds good enough

It's not an exact science, and your choice of oil should really depend on the climate that you are typically driving in. For a warm climate you can pick a thicker, lower viscosity oil such as 5w-30 or maybe even 10w-30. If it's cold, then it's good to use a thinner oil - this will make it easier to crank over the engine when the oil is cold.

Default Thanx

Actually, I use 5W-20 , engine runs smoothly and I am living in nothern Illinois where the winters are harsh. The reason I asked is cause I found note on mobile1 site that 0w-40 is recommended for most european cars with turbochargers while 5w-20 also for turbocharged but mostly japanese. The 5w-20 was recommended for me by guys working in oli lube shops , so...I have to choose who 's talking truth:\

Arent you suppose to use VW 502 rated oil? The 0w-40 is...

Forget what the ricers at the local oil boob shop say..

The mobil 1 0w-40 has more ZDDP which helps protect the engine... Its at 1000ppm vs no more than 800ppm for the 5-20 (new standard). They can use more by calling it 'european formula'.

The Modil 1 5w-40 has 1200ppm...

5w-40. It repeats most on that VW 502 list.
