RE: traction control
Need to know a bit more about YOUR Audi, mate...
What year/engine/etc?
Short answer (in two parts):
If you have a Quattro, no (you don't need it!). If you have a Quattro, you may (depending on year) have Electronic Stability Program (more sophistocated than traction control and designed to detect and correct skids).
If you don't have Quattro (i.e., FWD), maybe (depending on year).

RE: traction control
well my previous car was a vectra and having driven that for a few years with tc on and then the last couple of weeks driving without it on there was such a difference more power more go more responsive so im sure my audi would be the same?

RE: traction control
Not that I would imagine. Traction control uses the ABS sensors to detect excessive wheel spin on a particular wheel and then applies breaking (on FWD vehicles -- on Quattros, it shifts torque around) to correct the issue. While this does represent a potential loss of power, I would think the fact that the power is more effectively being translated into movement of the car (instead of just spinning the wheels) would make up for it.
I may be off on this, but this is my take on it.
