You guys makethe worksound very simple. I only wish I can do the same.

1) How easy would you say it is for a non-mechanic person like myslef toreplacing a timing belt on a 2000 A6 4.2 and a 2003 RS6? (I've changed oil on a Camry, ABS control module on Audi A6).
2) What is the difference between anA6 4.2 timing belt and a RS6 timing belt?
3) Don't they share the same enginebesides the bi-turbo? I can only assume that they use the same timing belt.
4) Would the work be the same to replace the timing belt on both cars?

Your imput is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
I would say if you are not a mechanic, find one to do it. A timming belt job is not that hard but if your experience so far is little more than changing oil you are going to be way out of your relm. BENG

Thanks for your advise.

I guess I won't be opening up the fron of the A6 then.

Would you still know if the A6 4.2 timing belt is different from the RS6's?

Thanks!

The timing belt is easy to replace if you have a the Audi shop manual, which lists the tools you will need, etc. However, there will always be thosewho don'treplace the water pump, the tensioner bearing, and the idler bearing. It this belt fails, then the engine is scrap.

ha ha ha its funny you say that because I was going to be one of those knuckle heads

Reason I had to do the timing belt in the first place is cause my water pump went.... Thus needing to take the car apart, so I bought the kit

BEST DECISION EVER!!!
you do NOT want to have to go through the time to do this, to only replace the belt.

After seeing you have to take the front end of to just replace the thermostat opened my eyes.
I guess you can add this as a lesson learned to my original post

buy the complete kit
