strange oil leak
#16
Keep an eye on your coolant level, if you still have G12 in the system. It is light red, and when you see it leaking from the front of the engine your thermostat and waterpump seals are toast. I just had this happen on my car, and it would not leak while running, but after it was shut down and cooled off the seals would shrink and begin to leak.
When it leaks enough, you will get white residue along both sides of the lower oil pan as that is what is left behind when the water in the coolant evaporates.

I think its the coolant leaking, because what you said is just like what im seeing, there is this dried up stuff on the bottom of the oil pan also. last night it hardly leaked at all but today at work after about a hour there was a very big pool of coolant. how do i find out exactly where it is coming from? I looked under the car and im going to try to describe what looks oily, a possible leaking point. It is right in front of the driver side header and above the oil filter. it is oily but not sure if that's where its leaking from. Im not even sure if its coolant any more, its almost looks orange, but its clean...

The leak is getting worse, I know its coolant now. This might be a silly question to you guys but could I use some type of stop leak? I don't have the time or money to replace the water pump. I need to get by for about 5,000 miles. The car dosent over heat or anything but it leaks a lot.

I drove mine for a couple of weeks until I could devote a weekend to fix it myself in my garage. I did the full timing belt job as long as I had it apart.
It would take anywhere from 1/2 a liter to a full liter per week to keep the warning light from coming on. It never overheated, but if you run it like that too long you run the risk of warping the plastic thermostat housing. Then you'll need to replace it with another plastic one or the updated metal one from the S4.
