Default Sports suspension struts.

My car has SACHS 4B0 412 031 BN front struts. I never knew that I had the S-line until I called a couple of dealers and finally got one that would actually take my vin and actually tell me the truth. I need replacement struts and need to know what is available to us that will meet or exceed the specifications of the original Sachs stuts.

Anyone know if the sachs are monotube or twin tube or what? they are gas filled with a 50mm shaft. I have been looking around, bilstein sells ones with 46mm shafts (I dont want smaller shafts) and worldimpex has originals (also kyb:$80 and bilstein touring$90) but they are $211 each (a little too expensive). I really want monotube struts, anyone know of a good replacement that is monotube for $150 or less each, a set made specifically for the s-line suspension would be great...??? also ecs has koni struts ($621 = in my price range) are they good?

I installed the Koni FSD struts last summer on my A6 4.2 (c5). They were definitely an improvement over the stock ones I had. They are way stiffer in corners and smoother on rough roads. Unfortunately I have no comparison to the S-line struts. Sorry.

How can you tell if you have the S line?

the front seats look different, the car is lower (you can barely fit your hand between the top of the wheel and the wheel well. Your struts are Red, springs have 1 tan mark and 2 pink marks. the front strut part # is 4B0 412 031 BN (but its on the back of the strut (at least the driver side is))... I did not have an S or S-line anywhere on my car, perhaps they did not put it in the 2000-2003 models, or the previous owner of my car took them off...

another way to tell, if you really really know how to drive a car and got stuck in the snow (while messing around in deep snow) with the a6, then you most likely have an s-line. i couldn't get stuck in the snow no matter what in my 2000 a6 2.7t standard suspension, seriously!
the things I did in that car are unbelievable and I always got out fairly easily. (in one instance i decided to go over a 3-4 foot barrier made by snow plows, I got a little stuck in the middle, I got out of my car and I was able to sway my car, I could push the front down and it would go down, or push the back down and it would go down, etc... i got back in, and got out of that within 30 seconds...)
In this one I got stuck once and had to get pushed out by 6 guys...

The S-Line's have those "S-Line" badges on the rear doors don't they? I think they all came with the rear trunk lip/spoiler (same one as on the RS6), shark fin/satellite antenna on the roof, and as mentioned before.. the sport suspension

Does the "S-Line" exist on the pre-facelift (1997-2001)? I've never seen one.

Maybe it's a 2.7T with the Sport Package?

s-line = sports package, no?
Anyways, my car didn't have the spoiler when i got it, no s-line badges, stock 2.7t turbine style rims, no shark fin...

Yes and no, I guess

="audischroeder"] The S-Line was only manufactured in 2004.The S-Line was, in essence, the A6 2.7T with a sport package for 2004 and came with a 265 HP engine, up from the standard 250 HP of the 2.7T. The only sure way to identify one is by the S-Line badge on the rear doors. So, if the A6 2.7T you are looking at is not a 2004, or if it is a 2004 but does not have the S-Line badge, it isn't an S-Line.
So while it's technically a non-S-Line 2.7T, it's pretty much the same thing. Just without the exterior goodies (badges, spoiler, antenna etc) and extra 15HP.

the extra 15hp is software only. So with my empty piggies and thick intake manifold gaskets, I have more than an extra 15hp. I took out my darin intake to see how the standard air filter works again, I'd say I lost 3-5hp from that, I can almost feel it, I think...
S-line's 15 extra hp wont matter if your getting chipped anyway... And in the bentley it says the APB engine has 258hp so I'm only short of 7hp if they didn't do the s-line software in my car already.
And I do have the spoiler, i took it off my 2000 and put it on my 2001 but its in need of a new clear coat, if i can figure out how to get the rest of the old one off...
