Default Removing A6 avant roof bars / rails?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if there is a way to remove the roof bars/ rails from my A6 avant (temporarily)? There are a couple of rust patches along the roof by the channels under the rails, and I want to prep them and paint them before selling it, but I want to do it properly. Is it possible to remove the bars so I can get to the areas properly, or do I have to just mask them and work around them?

Many thanks as always guys,

Cheers,

Stewart

They are welded to the car, and cannot be removed :P

No really.... They are bolted from the inside off the roof, you need to remove the roof trim to get to the bolts, and even though i have never done this, i would guess you will get leaks after removing them.....

I suppose you will need to use some type off silicone sealant to get it thight.

What year is your A6? On my 97 Avant there are hex screws on the inside of the rails that you unscrew and then you can take the rails off. Don't mess around with the puddy under the rails...its there to keep water from leaking into your car. ( thats what im assuming )
