Radiator fan removal for drive belt tensioner
I have a 2003 A6 and need to replace the drive belt tensioner. What is involved in removeing the electric radiator fan assembly , so that I can get to the tensioer to replace it.

You don't the bumper cover comes off and the front slides out on pins. It gives you plenty of room. As mentioned Get the manual. If you plan to keep this car you should consider replacing the waterpump, rollers, t-belt, serpentine belt, thermostat, and the front rubber mount so your done in there for another 60-80K. They sell kits with everything you need except the rubber mount. try this link or copy it to your browser it will explain the process.

I just did a drivebelt (serpentinebelt) a month ago on my A6. U don't have to go thru the effort of removing the fan, just slide the belt between the fan & radiator. The tensioner will take a lil bit of maneuvering to get out because of a lack of clearance but it is still easier than swinging the bumper open. Just make sure when squeezing the new tensioner in that u don't knock the pin out that keeps tension on it (If u don't know what i'm talkin bout u'll notice a pin in the tensioner when u buy it).
