Power Steering Noise, Any help???
Hi guys
I have got a 2001 A6 2.4 (130000 km /81000 miles) and my power steering has started to make a noise. The irritating humming noise has been increasing the last week and sounds even more whilst turning. I have checked the powersteering fluid leveland there is no air in the system or seal leaks. How does one determine whether it is the pump or rackthat is causing the noise?Ihave read an articleonreplacing thesteering fluid could resolve the problem. Has anyone tried it?Does anyonehave more advice?
Many thanks
Mike

could do but bubbles isn't the answer because when the engineis running you wont see any because the fluid is in motion, proper way is to do it as I said, bubbles or froth means the system has air in it or its been done wrong

RE: Power Steering Noise, Any help???
Funny thins I was just visiting this site due to the same issue.I've got a 01 A6 2.7 Quattro with 65500 Miles.
My car just started to make the same noise just out of the blue. One thingI have to metion is that the weather just got a bit cold here where I live. Now I don't know if there is any co-relation but not long ago I just had the Timing belt service done and the CV boots L& R.. I think it isthe "70k miles".
Prior to that the car had been noiseless. Is this normal ? or did they miss something when they were putting it back together?
