Default power stearing pump or something else?

i have a 2000 a6 4.2 and my power stearing does not work from a dead stop or moving slowly ......................... power stearing only works when the rpm goes above 1700.... what can this be? wheres all the experts at?

Could be a slipping serpentine belt. Try some belt dressing. If that helps, you need a new belt. If not, your pumps relief valve might be stuck open in which case you need to replace the pump (I don't think you can get just the relief valve).

Just replaced my ps pump. Check for fluid flow in the reservoir. Your screen may be dirty and restricting flow. The other obvious check is if there is enough fluid. Make sure you use Audi PS fluid. Otherwise you will for sure end up replacing your ps pump.

Did you have to remove the front bumper and lock carrier to change the pump? My pump came in the day after I finished changing the timing belt.
