"Pop" sound when I turn the steering wheel
98 A6 quattro 158k
Sometime when I turn my steering wheel sometimes I will hear a "pop" sound on the passenger side. I took it into a local shop who told me the "steering was loose" and they tightened it, I am not sure what they did. Now I hear the pop sound on the drivers side. Can anyone tell me what to tighten on the steering so I don't need to take in back into the shop. I am not as familiar with the steering parts of the car and any info would be helpful.

I should have asked the shop, I was just excited that the noise was gone on the passenger side and that I didn't need to replace the control arms. Now with the noise on the drivers side I assume it is the same thing. If it is as simple as tightening up some bolts I want to just do that, but I need a little help in knowing what to look for.

I recently saw a thread about this though I am not sure if it was here or over at Audiworld but it talked about the entire steering rack coming loose and causing popping/banging noises. I beleive it said there were two bolts that hold the rack in and that they sometimes come loose. Do a little searching here or over there it shouldnt be hard to find the thread.
