Default Poor Mans Brake Up Grade

i was wondering is there like a cheaper way to get better brake for my 01 a6 2.8 non quat? all the big brake kits start at like 2200 or more and the sport brake pads i dont know if they will be enough. i put on some staggered 19s and to me the brakes are now feeling like there having a hard time stoping. can i just get a caliper from a rs6 and bolt them on or something? all help is appreciated

get TT carriers and 312mm slotted rotors with hps brake pads, stainless steel brake lines, and racing brake fluid. the blue stuff. will be more than enough for our cars.

I can't imagine putting 19's on your A6 makes breaking that much harder. I have a jeep w/ 33 inch tires and stock brakes and i barely notice a difference.

I'd just get new pads and rotors and flush the fluid.

HPS Hawks pads on stock-like rotors (slotted or drilled not worth the extra $) and very important is Stainless steel brake lines with race fluids as mentioned
Above.

i was looking at ecs tunning and i seen the brake upgrade using the porsche boxter and cayenne calipers. are the carriers reall different or hard to come by? i can get the cayenne ones right now for 500 bucks and there 6 piston calipers. i know i dont need to get these calipers but was curious about the porsche calipers on my a6.

I say just go get good pads and stock size rotors and call it done. If you really want something better, then go get the 312mm rotors. FYI, A6 quattros came with 312mm rotors stock, so if you find brake caliper carriers for A6 quattro, then you are good. Also Avants came with 255mm rotors instead of 245mm. So the best so called factory combo would be 312mm front rotors and 255mm rear rotors. Be aware though... 255mm rotors for Allroad is different than 255mm rotors for standard Avant, and will not fit.

As for the pads and rotors, I agree with Formulagigi. I always had good luck with Hawk HPS street pads and good blank rotors. Although I have drilled rotors, the only reason that I got them for is the weight saving. (Which most will say is negligeable.) Performance wise, blank rotors will outperform drilled or slotted rotors in conventional steel rotors.

Also most big brake kits will rob power. These are designed for high powered race car application and larger diameter combined with heavier weight results in heavier rotational mass. It will make your car slower.

BTW, I recently got my HPS pads from www.streetsideauto.com. It was really cheap.
