Oil Pressure Warning Light

Oil Pressure Warning Light
2004 A6 3.0 Quattro
Had the big red oil can light come on and start beeping. I immediately pulled over and checked the oil level. Oil level was good. Drove 1 mile home. Checked oil pressure with a mechanical pressure tester. Tested good around 55 psi. Replaced oil pressure sending unit. Still had light come on. It would come on and then go off, and then come on and then go off... The light would rarely stay on for more than a minute or two. Seemed to correspond with coming to a stop or accelerating. Decided to change the oil (5W30 Synthetic) and filter (Mann). Drained out over 6 qts of used oil. Oil looked pretty dirty for only 2500 miles. Drove the car for 5 miles and can't get the light to come back on now. Any ideas?

It's your oil pick up/oil pump. I had the same problem, you may find the light goes out over 2000rpm, but come back on when it drops below this. Whatever you do dont get rid of the original oil sensor from the bottom of the sump. It very rarely is this, but when it's replaced with a patent part. the pressure side works, but the temp stops.

You may have resolved your problem without knowing it. We have had filters fail where the inner construction is not as per the specs required. In some cases they have too much filter material and the pleats suck together as they become dirty restricting the flow.
This should not happen with good quality products.
