Now with Soundclips-- new Pipes-- 4.2 exhaust
Did the install on my exhaust today- it was a hybrid intended to keep costs down while meeting my needs. Mixed bag on both counts. Consists of:
Custom, narrow dual-in/out stainless muffler with mixing chambers replaced stock X' pipe (Stainless Specialties).
Aeroturbine resonators replace stock resonators.
Stebro rear mufflers replace stock mufflers.
So the system is still 2", but completely straight-through aft of the cats.
Has a very robust idle now, quiet on highway. A little annoying when lugging at mid throttle when its being lazy about downshifting, like during hill climbs. But once it downshifts and gets out of the 1300-1800 band it's great. Makes driving in Sport mode much more appealing.
Drawbacks- Stebro pipe is 409 stainless instead of 304. Could develop surface corrosion.
-Stebro apparently spaced when installing the tips, just welding them at the end of the muffler, so an extension had to be fabricated to get them out the rear faschia.
- At only 3" the tips still look a little anemic, and the single wall design is not what I would've picked. Possible future upgrade, but for now I want to retain the option of installing the Stebro silencers for the setup. On final install, they are a bit 'proud' of the rear fascia anyway.
Definately turns heads on startup though, much better. Apropose of AMG E55 or M5 maybe.
And before you ask, sorry, no means to collect soundsample right now.

Now if I can just get my Grand Cherokee sold off to pay for these toys..

Tip Idea: Hit up magnaflow and buy the 4" angle cut double walled 304 stainless tips. They have magnaflow performance embossed on the top and look killer on the car. No anemic qualities at all. You'll be happy.

Appreciate the pix of tips.
I said that I wouldn't be able to do soundclips...then I remembered that I do have a digital camera/camcorder, so I'm trying to sort it out. Captured some vids that play OK through the camera (some distortion from internal mic, but OK), but on transfer to the PC I lose the sound. Could be that I'm using too-small file sizes, but I'm on dialup so posting to a web repository will be dicey.
I'm looking at some EBay oval tips that ought to fit the stock openings, but maybe I'll hold off for another look at the MFlows installed.

Getting there, have some vid excerpts converted to .wmv. Nothing special, just the camera behind the car recording.
Registered on Youtube. To my surprise, does sound like some of the others I've heard recorded electronically, though maybe not as raw at idle (probably due to the extra front muffler I installed). I'll see if I can get something up in the next couple of days.
