The URs forums on Quattroworld has some do-it yourself info on repairing the switch, I did that but it was only temporary. Once I had to drive 150 miles holding the switch in the pass-to-flash mode to see where I was going.
Thanks for all the advice the problem was the multifunction switch for once a some what easy fix.

I recently had problems with my rear fog lights not working, it turns out a connection in the switch had burned out. I had the switch out and found an extra pin that gets energized when the headlights are on, I connected to that and added a seperate switch so now I can turn my rear foglights on when my headlights are on. So if you pull the switch and check for voltage/output on the headlight pin and don't
get it there should be another pin that is energized that has no wire going to it that you can swap your headlight wire to, I will look through my notes I did write down some of the pinouts, if I can find them I willpost which pin I was able to use.

With the switch out you can check to see if you have power with the switch in the headlight on position to the yellow wire, which in my sketch is the 4th connection from the right, if you don't have power there then your switch is bad, That pin on the connector was labeled 56, three positions to the right of that is an unused pin on the connector(at least on my car it was unused optional equipment may not be the same)it is labeled 56+, check to see if you have power there, if os switch the yellow wireover to it and you should be all set, though it may be that the same connection burned out inside powers both of those pins it is worth checking as it will save you having to buy a new switch. I found direction for removing the headlight switch by doing a seach on this forum (I think) it was fairly easy I do remember having to seach a bit for the bolts/screws that holdsomeof the trim on

Default Confused by head light outage too!

Hi there ... I have a 1990 90s Coupe Quattro when I turn on the high beams the head lights go out completely ... I checked the bulbs which are fine. Someone had mentioned that it would prolly be the relay and to check them ... So don't mean to be too much of a girl and can figure most things out but..... This has me stumped , why would my high beams go out but the parking lights stay on ..? Help
