You truely want to know how much it will cost to get that A6 into the 10's? Ok let the new school mechanic tell you.
$2,000 new turbos
$2,000 tuning, injectors, fuel pump etc.
$1,000 FMIC
RS4 intake mani $800
Steel intake piping $300
Custom built spur cut manual transmission $8,000 est.
Full exhaust $1,000
Open downpipes $400
Massive weight reduction free!

This is just the price of parts, if you planned on having someone else install all of this add another $4,000.

Total price without labor $ 15,500
With labor $19,500

I can make an chevelle do a 10 second 1/4 for $5,000, but you already know that.
An A6 isn't a drag car, and it isn't a good model for it.

You can get 12's, maybe high 11's with custom tuned k04 car and w/m. On my base tune I made 13.1 with full weight. Then the track shut down for the year, I have since made some changes which equate to about .9 sec between 4200-6500(FATS). To get that car in the 10's, you are looking at GT2871 or better turbos, more likely 3076's(if they fit) or a giant single setup. I am not saying it can't be done, just that it isn't going to be easy.

oh, i see massive potential. my other car is a '66 rambler which if i dont sell i will strip. also have a guy wanting to give me a twin turbo diesel setup for a straight six. so god knows i dont get myself into anything easy, but theres a way. except a rambler is an easy drag car being light. for an A6, even the v8, numbers wise doesnt out perform the 2.7 time wise. its a heavy car. but i think i can make something impressive out of it. we'll see what i end up doing. but seeing guys chipped and tuned pulling 11;s, its not a massive stretch. something im definately looking into.

in regards to this, the rs4 parts i've already investigated so thats got plenty of potential, im a fab guy by trade as a machinist and welder so theres also alot i will do myself, but my goal is to gradually dial into this project with accumulation of potential components and incrementally employing them on the car. and aside from my own skills the army gives us wonderful auto shops to utilize so i take advantage of that when i can. i feel with enough time and patience it could be interesting. otherwise, i'll have a wonderful car to drive to mcdonalds with.

Well if you actually plan to go thru with it (which you seem you do) the engine isn't the problem, the internals are capable of 700 horsepower on the stock block. The problem is your automatic transmission, you need to swap it out for a manual, and even then mike hood will tell ya its no picnic having 700 horsepower. He strips the gears right off the shaft in his 1.8T A4, he's gone thu 3 transmissions so far. So a spur cut custom transmission or a fully built tip trans from level 10 would have to be done at a major cost.

Oh, and im sure mike would love to help you get there at a discount if you buy them from here on the forums. mike2ptzero is his handle and www.ringer-racing.com is his site.
If he doesn't stock the parts you need, he can get them.

You'll need a set of these babies to get you into the 10's http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...ory_Code=VVWTK

No audi A6 does 11's with just a chip, the B5 S4 only does a mid 13 second 1/4 mile with a 300 horsepower chip. You will need around 500 just to hit the 11 mark without major weight reduction.

Could he take the gears out and get them cryo treated? Some mazda guys do it and then they start blowing the housings apart. I would love to see one of these put down some serious power. It would be infinitely better if it was totally gutted (including sound deadening) with some speed glass. Would be a serious beast on the track...mmmmmm road course A6.
