New to the Audi World
I searched the whole forum here, but didn't seem to find what I wanted.
As an outsider to the Audi world, and will soon be buying an A6, I'm finding what seems like an unusual amount of problems that Audi's seem to experience. I know people are more likely to discuss their problems rather than upsides, but it still makes me wonder.
I'm considering a 2002 A6 3.0 with or w/o Quattro. Which years would everybody say is the best as far as reliability is concerned? I will probably be purchasing a 7 year, 100,000 mile extended warranty for $2500 just for peace of mind. But that doesn't mean I'm OK with a car that will break down every year.
For those who have reliabile Audis, speak up! How many miles do you have? What year of car?
Any common problems for 2002 non-turbo models?

RE: New to the Audi World
Please note I am an Audi saleswoman at an Audi dealership, and allow that to color my views as you feel appropriate.
Without discussing the merit of individual models or years, I'd like to mention that rather than purchasing an Extended Warranty, you could buy a Certified Pre-Owned car from an authorized Audi dealership, and have an extended Audi warranty. Plus, the car will have been through Carfax and a 300+ point inspection. The Audi dealership also knows exactly who will be shouldering the burden of repair work if the car gives you trouble.
With Certified pre-owned versus extended warranty, you don't have to worry about whether or not the claim will get paid, or where the work will be done, or if the mechanic knows their stuff.
Because of the year you are considering, you are within the framework of a CPO car.
p.s. I heart the A6.
