Need Assistance With Rear Rotor Fitment Problem
What started out to be a routine maintenance activity has taken longer than ever imagined. S-O-S!!!
Car: 2004 A6 2.7T - Sport Suspension - Quattro
Bottom line - every third party rear brake rotor I have tried has been too thick!! First I purchased a set of performance rotors from partsgeeks and they didn't fit - they wouldn't refund my money because the cheap anodized finish of the rotors scratched. Needless to say they're off my list and I' out the rotors plus return shipping.
Then I decided to go to Napa and get the stock replacement rotor for a A6 same thing. At least they refunded my money. Tried a set from O'Reily's ditto.
The funny thing is all of them seem to be about 100-200th of an inch two thick and they rub against the bracket that the rotor slips in to and the caliper attaches to.
I don't know whether to machine the bracket down a little, remove it completely or take the rotors from partsgeek to the machine shop and have them machined down. I can't believe this all the on-line warehouses sell one set of rotors for my make and model what the heck is the problem??
One odd thing is Audi told me I'd need the VIN so they could match the rear rotors??? Is there something I'm missing hear?

Your model came with 3 different rotor sizes.
245X10
255X10 with 1.5 inch rotor hat
255X10 with 1.75 inch rotor hat
Since your new rotors are rubbing against the bracket, I would think that your car came with the 1.5 inch rotor hat. Also check the diameter just to make sure.
ECStuning.com carries all of them.

Thanks - when I called the warehouses no one ever told me there were different hat sizes only the difference in the diameter of the rotors. Must be the 1.5 x 255. Why did Audi change the hat size by .25mm? That's frustrating.
