Default Loud whirring sound after cold start

Car was running fine but it got real cold today. Loud whirring sound at start, increases and vibrates with engine speed and also seems to increase when turning. Very unusual loud sound.

Had lots of work done recently everything seemed fine, any thoughts?

Hey thanks for that reply, I'll check it out with my mechanic today. Thankfully it seems that one's not a huge job. BTW I had the timing belt done, new torque converter, mass airflow and front o2 sensors, the "snorkel" vacuum hose replaced, all recently. Also had window switches in driver door replaced and now passenger side regulator seems needed. I am first owner, up until a year ago I barely spent money other than on suspension-related stuff.

Thanks

Typically, when power steering pumps are low on fluid they will start to suck air into the actual pump, hence the whining/whirring. You can also see little air bubbles in the fluid when this happens, if you look closely enough.

Glad this was such an easy fix for you!

**edit - Forgot to mention that it becomes more of an issue in the winter time due to the broader change in temperature throughout the day/night as well as under the hood of the car.

Default power steering pump

last few days my power steering pump started to make a very loud noise like if it did not have liquid in the power steering resevuer... got thepower steering pump replaced but still the same loud noise ...like if there was metal against metal rubbing each other...HELP...is that normal..
