When I was driving my Lexus it instinctively knew never to approach a Jiffy Lube.

I have a feeling my A6 has that same self-preservation gene.

You might want to keep those Jiffy Lube cats on a short leash for a few months, make sure they're aware they may have to pony up again should your Audi experience any long term effects from this trip to Monkeytown.

As far as accidensts happen, it sounds more like ineptitude.

Those guys are just bad news. They **** all over my wife Infinti M-30 back in the 90's.

OK first I am a moron for going....but I brough my own oil and figured how could it be.....

Rather than drain the oil out of the car they drained the trans...then the filled the car with an extra six quarts of oil. They started the car and it ran...not very well...almost like there was too much compression. I knew what they did right off the bat. They then tried to refill the tranny with audi fluid and it was clear they had no idea what they were doing....

The car runs....but rough....it will not shift and simply slips in gear....I had it towed to the dealer..

My questions...what could the damage be from overfilling by 6 quarts of oil? and what damage could there be from running the car with no tranny fluid, or improper refill....

Thanks much.
Vin # so I canput it in my list of things i wont buy
Good thinking!!! I wonder if the Audi dealer will enter this incident in their record...

OK now I am getting code P0741 which says there is an issue with the TC. Could this have been a result of the jiffy disaster?

Default same problem years ago

I had Jiffy Lube do something similar to a 97 A6 that I owned. They opened the transmission fluid plug, realized pretty quick it wasn't motor oil and put the plug back. But the trans system was sealed, and they couldn't add more fluid. I made them tow it to the local Audi dealer and rent me a car while it was being fixed. I put up a stink that they rented me a small Chevy, but I was just being an a**hole at the time because I was so pissed. Audi took 3 days to fill the trans fluid (speaking of a**holes!), so it cost Jiffy Lube plenty. But, considering that they could have replaced the plug and let me drive away unknowing, I guess they were OK....

Jiffy Lube should at least require competence from it's employees

that's pretty ******* stupid to have going on

Its actually a pretty easy mistake if you dont know the car. A friend of mine did the same thing, the dealer charge him $600 to replace the transmission fluid.

All Jiffy Lube bashing aside....Since this happend in April and it is now October they are claiming the failure of my tranny could not be a result of their mistake.

To reiterate....They drained the transmission and sent me out the door. No trans fluid. I drove for five miles and went back. JL tried to service the tranny themselves by refilling the trans. They could not. I watched them run it through the gears in an attempt to solve this problem as they added fluid. They had no idea what they were doing...even after they said they refilled it the dealer said there was no fluid in the tranny. Where it went I have no idea.

I stopped them and the car was taken to the dealer. The dealer filled it and drove it around the block and said I was good to go. 6 Months later the tranny redlined there is metal in the fluid and Im getting code P0741. My shop, audi certified, says that yes there is a good chance JL caused this problem....

JL is claiming it is normal wear and tear and they I must have abused the car to cause the failure.....I don't want to take advantage of them...but does this sound correct?

Is there a possibility that in that five miles I drove with no fluid..... problems were caused that could lead to a failure 6 months down the road?

Im looking at the heavy end of a 7K bill and Im ticked....The car has 88K on the clock and I feel that is a little early for a tranny failure.

Granted its a completely different type of vehicle. I blew my tranny on my Silverado at 70k. Trust me that thing has been treated like a king since the day I drove it off the lot, and I put its first mile on. So I guess long story short it is possible to blow your tranny.

What do we think? The big question is what do you think. You drive any car with no transmission fluid in it, it will over heat and cause high friction. You transmission is gone. Chalk it up to lesson learned. Next time you are considering Jiffy Lube for maintenance, you might as well just drive your car straight into a wall and save yourself the trouble.
