Default Jiffy Lube Disaster...DAMAGE>>>HELP

OK first I am a moron for going....but I brough my own oil and figured how could it be.....

Rather than drain the oil out of the car they drained the trans...then the filled the car with an extra six quarts of oil. They started the car and it ran...not very well...almost like there was too much compression. I knew what they did right off the bat. They then tried to refill the tranny with audi fluid and it was clear they had no idea what they were doing....

The car runs....but rough....it will not shift and simply slips in gear....I had it towed to the dealer..

My questions...what could the damage be from overfilling by 6 quarts of oil? and what damage could there be from running the car with no tranny fluid, or improper refill....

Thanks much.

Some good news, and some bad news.
Good news is that the morons at Jiffy Lube could not drain the entire fluid out of the tranny since much of it is in the torque converter. The bad news is that you don't want to drive the car until the proper amount of correct fluid is in the tranny. Be sure to ONLY USE the AUDi specified transmission fluidand and there is NO substitute for that!!! While you are at it replace the filter inside the transmission. Although Audi claims you don't need to perform any maintenance on the transmission. they are full of $h1t !!!

As far as too much oil in the engine, you will need to drain all the oil so you have the correct baseline and refill with the proper amount. Again replace the filter while you are at it. I doubt you did much damage unles you insisted on driving the car knowing there was an issue with the oil level.

I know I would hold Jiffy Lube responsible for all the damage they caused.

I agree with zippy and gigi -- Stop driving the car!!!

Let an Audidealer get the right amout of transmission and motor oil in the car.

Keep all doccumentation. Send the local Jiffy lube the bill with a copy to the national JL company. If they refuse to pay make a fuss. Don't back down.. If they drag their feet let them know that your willing to go to a lawyer and will be asking for repairreimbursement, loss of use, lawyer fees, and damages.Contact the BBB and file a report with them.

They have insurance against that kind of thing and will pay for all your expenses. There's been incidents where they forgot to put the fill plug back etc. and paid for a whole new engine.

Well I would chastise you for going to a quick lube place with your Audi, but it appears you have done that yourself so no help is needed from me.

It sounds like you did the right thing by having it towed, and hopefully there won't be any lasting effects, but I have to be honest.....I would always be wondering what damage was done even if you only tried to drive it for a few minutes. Three years from now something could happen, and part of you is always going to wonder if it had something to do with Jiffy Lube.

Hope things turn out ok - and let us know the results. Also, do all of your friends and family a favor and tell them about your experience to prevent them from having the same thing happen to them.

Friends don't let friends go to Jiffy Lube.

Overfilling the oil and running the engine will cause a strain on the crankshaft and (eventually) lead to failure. You also turn the oil into a froth which can change the way the oil protects the engine.

Good job on towing it in and not driving it there.

Definitely send the bill to Jiffy Lube. You wouldn't believe the amount of money they spend on this sort of thing.

OK....I got the car back...Dealer found no trans fluid in the car and there was oil in the intercooler...they tore it down and it seems to run fine...actually a little more respondive then before.

As for Jiffy Lube...I gotta say they impressed me with how fast they took car of this. They were there with a check made out to the dealer for the full amount right when I was there to pick up the car. Very well done. I'm ticked they messed up my saturday but hey accidents happen, and they took car of me. They won't get my biz for the a6 anymore but they can have my Silverado.
