Default HID Headlight Self Leveling problem

Hello all,

I have an issue with a 2004 A6 S-Line 2.7t passenger side headlight. The self leveling system fails to work intermittently. It will point down while the other one levels properly. After shutting off the car and restarting it and turning back on the headlights every third time or so it will level correctly. Is this a motor problem in the light system or could this be a connection? Anyone ever replace one of these? Im guessing 5 - 6 hundred?

I'm having a similar problem in my 2005.5 A4. My driver side headlight will go completely out followed a few seconds later by my foglights turning off. Then, about 3 seconds later, everything cycles back on again. It's pretty dang scary while driving at night. This cycle will repeat itself over and over.
I've noticed that every other time I start the car the headlights will not self level. If they don't self level than almost 100% of the time my lights will have this problem. I wish there was a consistent solution to this problem, however I haven't found an answer online yet.

Do you have any codes? It sounds like a motor problem, not a sensor. People have reported taking the motor out, apart and lubing everything and getting it working again. If you are going to replace it, try Shokan for a used one.

Good luck,

Bob
