Headlight out....What to buy?
I just had a light go on and i referenced in my owners manual and come to find out my passangers side headlight is out. Can anyone direct me to what kind of bulb I need to replace this and what are my options? Can this be done by myself? Also, any links to where they can be purchased would be great. Thanks for your help! Jason

if you have hid lights switch the bulb with the working light to make sure the bulb has burnt or your ballast is bad, if you need a ballast you can find used ones on ebay new will cost you around 400.00. you can find hid bulbs every where dealer will cost you around 100.00 for the bulbs.

If you do NOT have HID lights, it is likely your headlights are like mine. (2000 A6 2.7t) If so the bulb that is more likely to burn out is the low beam. (It sees the most use.) The low beam has the projector type lens and the bulb is an "H1". ($3 to $5 or so...) I can not remember the High Beam... most car part stores can look it up for you.
It isn't very hard to change, just a tight spot. (smaller hands help.) My headlight bulbs are accessed under the hood, under a clip on cover mounted on the rear of the headlights. (On the right side I have to remove the air tube that passes over this area.) The bulbs themselves are held in by a little wire clip. The clip itself is fastened to the headlight. It does not REQUIRE any tools but I use a screwdriver for the cover clips.
-- Buy two bulbs and be ready to replace the other one soon.
-- Do not touch the glass of the new bulb. The oils from your fingers will burn and damage the bulb.
-- Inspect the wire connection at the bulb. If loose it will cause a lot of heat and not work correctly.... I had a loose connection damage a bulb.
