Default Handbrake warning light comes on while driving

Hi there,
I've got a 2002 Audi A6 2.4 and I'm having problems with the handbrake warning light. It comes on while I'm driving (even though the handbrake isn't engaged) and ONLY happens when I'm making a right turn. The warning light comes on and it beeps three times before going away. There aren't any other effects on the car performance - it still drives OK. Could it be a faulty sensor? Any idea why it happens only when I'm turning right?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated! I've looked at other forums/postings but can't find any relevant info.
Cheers!

Is this the only light on the dash, or does the yellow light come on too? (Blinking red light and steady Yellow light)

Its possible the computer might have a code captured in it to indicate what the probelm was. I would start there and see if there is any information.

Thanks. I'll have a look into it.

It's only the blinking red light with three beeps. I've noticed too that it usually happens after the car has been switched off for a long time (overnight). I don't tend to get it as much during the day. I should mention that I don't live in a cold climate so the weather doesn't seem to trigger it.

I'm going to take it over to the garage to have it checked out. I'll post their diagnosis here for anyone who has the same problem in the future.

Cheers!

Problem solved!

I rang the Audi Service Centre yesterday and explained the problem over the phone. Without a moment's hesitation, I was told that I needed to top up my brake fluid! Apparently it's a known problem and others have complained about it. However, they couldn't actually tell me why the HANDBRAKE warning light comes on when you're short on BRAKE fluid!

The reason it was only going off when I turned right was because of the way the sensor is positioned. Also, the computer never picked it up - I got an OK for all of the diagnostics.

Since I've topped up the brake fluid, I haven't had any more issues... for now!

Thanks for the info. I've got the same problem on my 2003 A6 I bought 10 days ago.
I almost started to panick that there will be some expesive repair involved.
I'll have to get me some Audi brake fluid only.
Thank you.
