front brake mileage/how to check brake thickness?
My front pads were replaced at 37xxx. how many miles should I get out of them? The audi dealership says they only have 1 mm left on them and need to be replaced. A few months ago my brake light was on and my guy said the wire was loose, but the pads were fine and he reconnected the wire. WTF?
Is there a way I can check the pad thickness myself? A special tool?
I don't want to get robbed by the dealership or fucked by the other guy.
So, how many miles should they last and can I check the pad thickness myself?
Thanks

Mileage depends on usage. You will get more highways miles of of a set of pads than city miles. If you keep one foot on the brake petal, you won't get good mileage, either. To check for yourself, remove a wheel and look. You can see the pad thickness easily by looking in the hole in the front of the caliper.
