Default ESP light flashing on the highway at 5k rpm.

Hey guys, I have a quick question (I searched first). I test drove a 2001 A6 with the 2.7tt enginetoday and I gunned it on the highway at 55mph and the car down shifted to 3rd and once it hit around 5k the ESP light started flashing and the car bogged down like it was trying to gain traction. Is this normal? Its been a sunny day with no rain so I don't think I would be spinning the tires at that speed. I'm really considering this car unless this is an issue. Any help would be great!

Thanks guys!

i test drove a 03 2.7T with the same problem but i was just speeding to get on the highway to catch up with traffic and the guy said it was just trying to make sure that the tires were all working together with the AWD, it was throwing power to the rear wheels and then it was blinking.. i dont think its a problem but i was concerned about it too, idk i would ask a audi tech to be sure.

I only get that icon blinking when I lose traction and the ESP kicks in. Usually when I'm horsing around a corner in deep snow or braking on ice. I can't remember it ever happening on dry pavement. I do have the 6-speed.

Thats what i'm thinkin, that it does not seem right. I also own a 01 GTI with the traction control and you can usually feel when the car can't get traction and this did not seem like it was losing any traction. It's a heck of a deal though; 65k and all options for 7999. Thats why I'm still thinking about it though lol. Thanks for your guys help so far!

I'd bet that the tries are missized either due to pressure or some jerk put two different sized tires on the vehicle and it thinks a wheel is slipping.. Just my humble opinion!

You could always take it to the dealer and have them do an pre-purchase inspection of the car and they will test basically everything. It runs about $110 but is well worth the security. At the dealer too, they should be able to tell you if that is normal......my 2.7t A6 is a 6 speed also so I dont know if that is normal for an auto.
