Door ajar indicator ?? 2002 A6
I have a 2002 A6 3.0 Quattro. Recently, (as in a few hours ago) the rear door ajar (drivers side) indicator will go on and off on the display indicator in the center console. The door is definately closed, so I'm wondering if there is a short somewhere, or this is a problem I'm not aware of. I don't think it's damaging anything, but it sure is a pain. Thanks

I hate it when my Audi tries to tell that a door is a JAR. There is no way a door can be changed into a jar unless the metal and glass are melted and reformed! LOL
I believe the switch in the door jamb makes contact with ground to turn the signal on. I'd first check the switch. Usually they fail the other way around - light won't come on.

If your dome lights start to flash at the same time as the door ajar indicator, check the drivers side rear footwell light located on the back bottom side of the drivers seat. I disconnected the plug and my disco light show went away as well as the door ajar indicator.
But it is also common for the door latch to fail as mentioned above.

Thanks Gents..........
Just a few more questions?
I'm guessing the door switch is buried back by the door closure mechanism.. How tough is it to pop the rear door panel to get access to the switch. Looks a bit complicated to me. Thanks.
Where exactly do I unplug the rear door light underneath the drivers side footwell? Boy, does that sound like I've answered my own question. Thanks

As far as taking the door panel off, its really easy. But I don't remember exactly how. But the door switch is integrated into the door latch. So fixing the switch is possible but much easier to just buy a used latch.
More than likely, your footwell light is causing the issue and not the door switch.

Wonders never cease
Thanks for the input gents. Get this ..... both my CEL throwing the P0421 code for emissions issues and the door light that was screwy (going on and off) have dissapeared. I mean neither light has gone off for weeks. Gone ......... almost like it never happened. Don't know what to think. Audis are weird cars. Thanks again.
