Default Clutch issue

Hi everyone!

I am having an issue with my 3.0 A6 (2002 with 72K); basically in the last 4-5 months i noticed that the car is really weird when i use lower gears, like if the clutch would slip (is an automatic with tiptronic i think...should be the same that is on the passat); and more the car gets hot and more the issue is evident; especially when running with 1st and 2nd gear; the other gears are ok and the car change smoothly between the other gears.

In my other cars i would start changing the transmission fluid, but this car is too new for my mechanic skills, so i have no idea how to do it and what kind of lubricant to use...

I read somewhere that the A6 has defective transmissions, but Audi never did a recall on them; so i wonder if someone has suggestions about what to do (fix the car, sell it; how much it would cost to fix it and where....good mechanics are rare today; especially after getting the dealer's bill, that told me that the entire transmission has to be replaced, since the computer diagnostic return the error "slipping clutch", or something similar).

Thanks a lot for your help...i love this car and the idea of spending money to get a new car is not really making me feel happy

So its an automatic? Well you don't have a clutch if thats the case.
A slipping clutch means a slipping clutch pack inside the transmission, it basically means your trans is done for. I have only seen that error code once before and the clutch pack was destroyed on that gear. More than likely you have a fluid problem or valve body problem and it fried the clutch pack. You don't have much choice but to either re-build or replace it, it will take a experienced mechanic to re-build that trans.

Oh and is this a quattro? If you have a CVT i can say for sure you need a new tranny.

oh....to me auto or manual are the same, part wisely

It is a CVT....so i assume that even if i change the fluid the tranny is gone....

Do you know who would be able to rebuild the tranny and how much money are we talking about? heard that the new one cost 7K-8K...and a new a6 cost almost the same

Let's review -- Auditech79 said if you have a CVT you need a new transmission - You said you have a CVT - therefore you can be sure you need a new trans because Auditech79 KNOWS!!!

You want sugestions about who to have rebuild your tranny without telling anyone where you live. Let's see -- I know a great person in Lowell MA when do you want to deliver the vehicle to him?
