Default Brake problem!!

I have what appears to be a big brake problem and wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. If I drive at highway speeds for a few minutes, the first time I press the brake pedal on the highway the pedal travelsmuch further than normal and has no brake boost. If I let off and immediately step on it again it has full brake boost assist. It only does this after travelling on the highway and not in city traffic. I checked the brake lines and fluid and I can't find any leaks. The fluid is not dropping in the resevoir at all either. Has anyone else experienced this or know what may cause this problem? I am going to have to take my Audi in because it is quite scary when I see brake lights in front of me on the highway and can't slow down!

Your problem lies in the brake booster. This operates off of vacuum so the problem may be as simple as a disconnected vacuum line. I don't have the manaul for this car yet so I can't give you any specifics.

As you said, the brakes, lines and master cylinder are fine.

Thanks for the quick reply! If it was a disconnected vacuum line, wouldn't I lose brake boost all the time though? It only does it on the highway when I've been driving at highway speed for at least a good 5-6 miles or so. Either way, I need to get it fixed ASAP as it isn't a good feeling knowing that the first time you try to slow down on the highway you don't have any brakes [:-]
