Bad Humming Sound
I have a 2001 A6 4.2 with 85k miles. A little while ago I started to notice a slight humming sound at high speeds, well after a while this humming sound got worse. There is no hum when I am idle or starting off but when I start to pick up speed say around 30-40 it starts low. Then as my speed increases so does the bad sounding humming, and as I decrease speed even just coasting the humming gets lighter at the rate of the engine slowing down as well. Around 80 the humming is loud and then my pedal starts to throb with the humming, you can kind of feel the humming through the pedal all the way to 80 but it is really noticable at 80.
Any ideas what the problem is?
