Question Audi A6 Subframe Bolts Problem

Hi friends,

Greetings!

I am new member to this great forum.

I have a problem which I would appreciate if someone could advise me about. I purchased an Audi A6 S Line TDi 2.0 litre Sept 2007 model from an Audi dealer in June 2008.

Very happy with my purchase until recently when usually at cold start, there is a noise on full lock of the steering wheel. It is very occasional. I took it to my local Audi garage [not the one I purchased the car from initially]. They had a look and told me that the Sub Frame Bolts are loose and needs to be replaced. They tell me it is not covered by warranty as they feel that someone has tampered with them before. They are quoting me £330.00 to get it fixed. I contacted the original garage from where I purchased the car. They are putting their hands up and saying that the car was never tampered with as it was a showroom demo model .

Please advise me what I should do. Does anyone else have this problem of the sub frame bolts becoming loose by itself? Should it not be covered by the warranty? What are my rights?

Your response is eagerly awaited.

With best wishes,

Saabu.

Your rights and warranty will vary greatly based on your location.
You should add this information to your profile.

I shouldn't really comment without listening to the noise, but the sub-frame bolt is loose and needs to be replaced??? I kind of doubt that. If that is the case, one, you should hear the noise a lot more since the whole frame will be moving around. Secondly, if the bolt is loose, then it can be tightened, not replaced. Thirdly, if they are refering to the bushings being bad, I really doubt that a 2 year old bushing will be bad.

Do you have bumper to bumper manufacturers warranty?
Mistake you made is approaching dealers repair shop with accusations and suggestions.
Are you asked on the repair form to sign and autorize the shop to do ALL necessary repairs?
What made you to participate on the NA forum?
There is a UK forum, you might know.

Since you bought a showroom demonstrator you could contact Audi UK directly about the loose subframe bolts. You need to get new Audi subframe bolts torqued to specification. However, if the threads in the car body are stripped, then it will be more expensive than just replacing the bolts. So, be sure that you pick a mechanic who has the Audi shop manual and a torque wrench. You may look up the prices of Audi parts at www.vagcat.com .

I have a similar problem. Does anyone know what needs to be done if the bolt is stripped or if you can re tap where the bolt goes into?
