Audi a6 98 Quattro Noises in 1st Gear when accelarting
Hi All,
I just bought Audi A6 2.8 30V Quattro engine code ACK, and for 1st time i noticed noises when accelarting in 1st, sounds like grainding from gearbox, but once 2nd gear selected noises stops.
some ppl said its normal for quattro cars.....its my 1st car so i wouldn't know
Can any body advice me please????
Thanks in advance
Tony

I had the same sound in my A4 when I had it. It was a 2.8 5-speed quattro. After so many jack rabbit starts I started to hear a faint clicking. It was a very fast clicking and got to a point where it sounded like a playing card in a bicycles spokes. This is not normal. I took it in to my mechanic and he said that first gear in these tranny's start to go with higher mileage. Its a syncro letting go. Drive it easy my friend until you get it fixed.

Thanks for the replay guys, you said (I took it in to my mechanic and he said that first gear in these tranny's start to go with higher ) but my vechile done only 84000 miles with full audi service history. is that possiable for Audi at that low millage to go wrong already?
how easy replacing the tranny oil?
will the tranny fail at any time?
Audi dealer quoted me £2000 for new tranny and new clutch, even though they not 100% not sure whats wrong with it till they strip the box....its rip off......the car cost me £2500.
